2. Preliminary activity: Tree shapes (lines and geometric forms)

Objective
To perceive geometric forms and lines in tree shapes. To identify leafy (deciduous) and evergreen (coniferous) trees.

Materials
• Recycled magazines (tree images)
• Pencils
• Computers with Internet access
Instructions
2.1   Identify tree profiles, shapes and lines
-   Based on tree pictures cut from magazines, draw the outlines of different trees to see each tree’s distinct profile. Identify the geometric shapes (triangles, rectangles, etc.) and lines (curving, straight, broken) in each profile. (45 minutes)

2.2   Identify deciduous and coniferous trees
-   Identify leafy (deciduous) and evergreen (coniferous) trees among the trees you found in the magazines. (Computer lab — 45 minutes)
