My parents settled in Strasbourg. With my sister Anita, born in 1926, we lived on the 5th floor of No. 4, rue Fischart between Avenue de la Forêt-Noire and the university gardens. We had a beautiful view down onto the city, dominated by church steeples and the famous cathedral. Every evening in summer, thousands of swifts performed a magnificent aerial ballet, and on Bastille Day - July 14, the cathedral was lit up with splendid fireworks!
