Reunited with Alsace

We went to Sarrebrück, where my mother’s brothers and sisters lived. I hadn’t seen them since 1937 and we were slightly apprehensive about the visit, the war and the horrors committed by the Nazis making everything a bit strange. But they welcomed us so warmly that we could only melt at their sincere affection. On the spur of the moment, several of them decided to accompany us to Marlenheim in Alsace. Aunt Marikel and Uncle Sepp almost fell over when they saw us with everyone else in tow. So many shouts of joy and emotional tears! We also saw family in Sarre-Union and Harskirchen.
