Seeing Mathurin Méheut again
We headed back to Paris to stay with Mathurin Méheut. His wife, Marguerite, and his daughter, Maryvonne, gave us a warm welcome at dinner and peppered Ghylaine with questions. Like all my friends and acquaintances, Mathurin Méheut thought she was very pretty! He gave us a tour of his studio and we saw the lively paintings he had done for the book Pêcheurs des quatre mers, some studies from nature, and glass monotypes he had greatly enjoyed doing. We commissioned a monotype from him on one of the Breton themes he knew so well. Time was running short!
Méheut, who lived at the very end of Hameau d’Alleray road, came back with us as far as the white gate inscribed with his initials, “MM.” I remember it all vividly, and Méheut’s smiling face, full of emotion.
