2nd Special Jury Prize at the 13th International Animated Film Festival, Annecy, France

"I wasn't at Annecy, but my producer, Hubert Tison, told me that when the film was screened, everyone in the theatre started tapping their feet and clapping their hands to the Quebec folk music! It was an instant hit. However, the president of the jury that year was a contemporary composer and he didn't really appreciate our digs in the music accompanying the art museum scenes. But that didn't stop Crac! from winning the prize!"

Oscar® for Best Animated Short Film at the 57th Annual Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards, Los Angeles, USA

"I'd been having problems with my eye, which had rejected a corneal transplant; so we decided that my producer, Hubert Tison, should go to Los Angeles to collect the Oscar® if Crac! won. When he got there, Hubert realized he simply couldn't attend the ceremony without me. So I took the plane on Monday morning without telling anyone at Radio-Canada, and after pleading with my wife to keep the trip a secret from my children, who would have been worried about me. Once I got there, we had to run around to get tickets, and I didn't have time to find a tuxedo. So the international relations representative lent me his. The only problem was he was a head taller than I, so I had to hitch the pants right up to my chest and my fingers were barely showing past the sleeves! It was in that fetching attire that I stepped onto the stage to collect my award! Imagine the surprise of my children, gathered around the TV with their mother, who hadn't breathed a word to them! When we left the ceremony, it was pelting down with rain and I had to hide the Oscar under my large jacket to keep it from getting wet as we tried to find a cab. It was just like a scene in an animation film!"
