Toledo was the former imperial capital of Spain under Charles V. Long a prosperous city, it was also known as a tricultural town where Jews, Christians and Muslims coexisted peacefully. Their presence lingers today in the extensive vestiges of religious architecture that punctuate the city. Toledo was also known far and wide for the quality of its metal work, particularly its sword-making industry.
