Flamenco
‘Flamenco’ refers to a style of music and dance practiced in Spain. Native to Andalusia, it has long been associated with gitano (gypsy) culture. A male or female dancer — depending on the region — performs to the music of a cantaore (singer), accompanied by one or more guitarists and rhythmic hand-clapping or foot-stomping. Flamenco is often said to have been profoundly shaped by joy and suffering. Today, it is closely linked with Spanish culture.
