Book proposal: Alsace, le beau jardin que voilà

These images are part of an unfinished project: an illustrated book on Alsace. On the cover foreground is a boar carved in stone, with the city of Strasbourg in the background. The title of the project (which, roughly translated, means “what a beautiful garden”) refers to the phrase uttered by Louis XIV when he first came to Alsace.

Sledge and Sledgemen
Comment(s)
Operating a sledge was quite dangerous. If the sledgeman missed a step, a ton of wood would fall on his back. The sledge’s speed was controlled by holding the handles on either side.
