Fishing

Fishing is a vital part of Brittany’s history and economy. Among the various types of fishing practiced, la pêche côtière (inshore fishing) uses small boats to catch sardines, hake and sole; la pêche aux crustacés (crab and lobster fishing) uses traditional traps known as paner; while la pêche à pied (seashore fishing) consists of walking along the shoreline with a net and griffe (a type of rake) to dislodge and harvest shellfish and crustaceans.
