The grower-distiller

Grower-distillers are normally orchard owners, farmers or growers authorized to distil their own fruit (or have it distilled) into a potent alcoholic beverage. If the grower-distiller chose not to distil the fruit himself, he could seek out the services of travelling distillers. Distilling rights were a privilege granted to a number of landowners in the early 19th century.
