Local shops

Nicknamed the City of Light for being the first to install street lamps, Paris has twenty arrondissements (administrative districts), each of which ― animated by the small shops and boutiques so characteristic of Parisian culture ― has its own special charm and individuality. Unlike many North American cities, Paris has managed to keep its local economies afloat. Here, where corner bakeries, confectioners, cafés, butchers, florists and other merchants are firmly woven into the urban fabric, the small business model can continue to thrive.
